Helping With
Traumatic Injuries

Surgery Photo - Injury Division

At Vanguard, we treat all types of trauma injuries to the body including injured extremities. For this reason our patients travel long distances to be treated.

Our surgeons are highly skilled in the knowledge of medical advancements to help repair injuries that might seem otherwise impossible. Our results speak for themselves.

Why should you consider reconstructive surgery?

Reconstructive surgery is the process of restoring the natural appearance and use of body parts affected by an injury, disease, or medical condition. Our board-certified South Florida surgeons perform plastic surgery, reconstructive, and microvascular procedures. We specialize in, but are not limited to, the reconstruction of catastrophic or complex injuries.

If you have suffered from a traumatic injury, our reconstructive surgeons can perform a procedure to try to restore function. Traumatic accidents can result from several things including work-related or sports injuries, auto accidents, and other unforeseen accidents.

Patients have come to us after surgical complications and asked for our expertise. When all their treating options have been exhausted, we provide an additional level of care.

We are here to help.

Our surgical team has the expertise to help improve function and aesthetic appearance after major trauma. Our surgeons are Chief Administrators for one of the largest level 1 trauma centers in South Florida – Broward Health Medical Center.

As respected educators and administrators, we handle the most complex cases that arrive at BHMC. Very often, we are the surgeons that other specialties select when they refer trauma cases out.

We care about our patients.

Vanguard’s team of surgeons and professional staff, take the time to form relationships with patients to understand what each patient needs to repair their injuries. Building this relationship with patients provides the best results and helps our patients have realistic expectations. It is important to know that Vanguard will fully assess each patient’s sustained injuries and explore the best way to improve their outcomes.

Considering the severity of their injuries, most of our patients are elated with the restoration of their severe injuries that can have lifelong consequences.

Some of the surgeries we perform include:

  • Skin grafts
  • Free flap/tissue transfer flaps to cover major defects
  • Closed reduction and internal fixation
  • Tendon injuries
  • Ligament reconstruction
  • Burn seguelae
  • Surgical drainage or debridement
  • Limb salvage / Amputations

This list is not exhaustive. Our surgeons can handle any injury that comes into our facility.

We are known for our expertise in micro-vascular surgery and hand surgery.

Microvascular surgery is a procedure in which reconstructive surgeons utilize a microscope and special surgical equipment to reconnect blood vessels and nerves to restore circulation, keeping injured tissues alive. Our surgeons perform procedures necessary for the reconstruction of injuries, defects, and reattachments.

Worker's compensation injuries.

Whether you’ve sustained injuries at work from the malfunctioning of machinery, an automotive accident, defects from injuries from animal bites, explosions, or any deformative injuries. We are here to help you restore function to get you back to work faster.

We're here for you.

Our surgeons have developed a passion for what they do through clinical experience, the many missions they’ve traveled, and the knowledge they have garnered throughout the years. Our surgeons and professional staff have wonderful bedside manners and put our patients at ease during these stressful experiences.

Our reconstructive surgeons perform an extensive assessment with each patient with the goal of repairing the injured body part. The assessment provides a clear picture of the extent of the injury and the procedure necessary. If the injury is extensive, our surgeons will notify the patient that multiple procedures may be required to achieve optimal results.
