Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Why Get an Arm Lift?

Skin laxity and excess fatty tissue in the upper arm area may be a distressing part of the aging or weight loss process. Brachioplasty, commonly referred to as an arm lift, is a body contouring procedure that refines the shape and contour of the upper arms. Although it is commonly performed on patients who have undergone weight loss surgery, any patient who has excess skin laxity in the upper arm may benefit from this procedure to restore slender and youthful appearance of the upper arms.

This surgical procedure is performed in an outpatients setting and takes approximately 1-3 hours depending on the amount of tissue to be removed and the overall length of the incision. The incisions are well-hidden on the under-side of the arms and can be seen only if the arms are elevated.  Liposuction is occasionally used as an adjunct to this procedure to further remove any excess fat as loose skin is trimmed. Am I a Good Candidate for Brachioplasty Surgery?

Arm shaping procedures are usually performed for patients who suffer skin laxity or excess fatty tissue in the upper arm. It often follows weight reduction surgery. However, patients of any age and sex may be able to benefit from it.

Can I Have an Arm Procedure at the Same Time as Other Surgeries?

Yes! An arm fat removal procedure is a relatively simple one with minimal downtime and risk of complications, so it’s very common for patients to get several procedures done at the same time. This makes things more convenient. In particular, liposuction, a tummy tuck, or Brazilian butt lift are often scheduled.

Does Arm Reshaping Surgery Leave Scars?

All conventional surgeries leave some marks. Brachioplasty scars tend to diminish over time as the body’s healing process occurs. To reduce scarring, arm lifts are done using small incisions (often less than two inches) on the underside of the arm. These are not visible unless the arm is elevated.

How Much Does Arm Fat Removal Cost?

Cost is dependent on a number of factors, including procedures to be performed and any complicating factors. At Vanguard Plastic Surgery, we will work with you to help you get the treatments you want. We offer specials on a regular basis.

What is Recovery Time Like?

Because incisions used for arm lifting are very small, recovery is accelerated compared to more complex surgery. There may be swelling and redness in the treatment area after surgery. However, most patients can return to work within a short time.

Patients should refrain from vigorous exercise, particularly involving the arms, and avoid lifting heavy objects and other activities that stress the arms. Discomfort should subside within a few days, though full brachioplasty recovery can take several months.

When Can I Start Exercising My Arms Again?

Most patients need to wait about six weeks before they can begin exercising their arms again. When you start to exercise, take into account how your body feels as well as the fact that you may need to start slow and work your way back up to your previous level of training.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Depending on your health and fitness habits, results may last anywhere from weeks to several years. Maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise will generally make it easier to maintain your results. Advancing age will also affect the longevity of results.
